AMS-IX strengthens digital sovereignty with migration to Dutch cloud

Digital sovereignty is becoming increasingly important in a world where dependence on external cloud providers continues to grow. Against this backdrop, we have migrated part of our workloads to the Dutch cloud infrastructure of Uniserver, a deliberate step to further strengthen control, transparency, and continuity of our digital infrastructure.

This migration is part of our broader strategy to gain greater control over our digital infrastructure, data, and dependencies. By choosing a Dutch cloud provider with data centres located in the Netherlands, data and workloads remain under European jurisdiction and supervision. This aligns with current regulations as well as upcoming European frameworks around digital sovereignty.

“As an organization with a public and vital role in the internet ecosystem, we believe it is important to make conscious decisions about where and how our digital infrastructure is hosted,” says Peter van Burgel, CEO of AMS-IX. “This migration contributes to transparency, control, and continuity of our services.”

Uniserver provides the cloud environment and focuses on organisations that value compliance, predictability, and control over their data. The infrastructure is designed in accordance with European standards and supports us in building a future-proof IT architecture.

“The collaboration with AMS-IX perfectly reflects what we stand for,” says Martin Olij, CCO of Uniserver. “We enable organisations to maintain full control and certainty over their data, on Dutch soil and under Dutch law, so they always know where their data is and can rely on it.”

The migration was carried out in phases, with a strong focus on continuity, security, and performance. We will continue to evaluate our infrastructure in light of technological and societal developments.
