AMS-IX Kolkata and AMS-IX Hyderabad are the first of four new Internet Exchanges to go live after last year’s announced expansion of AMS-IX's footprint in India. Next to Kolkata and Hyderabad, AMS-IX and Sify are also going to expand to Noida and Chennai. AMS-IX and Sify are already operating AMS-IX Mumbai (previously known as AMS-IX India) for quite some years, so in total there are now three AMS-IX Internet Exchanges operational in India.
The demand for reliable and cost-effective internet connections is increasing in India due to the rapid use of digital solutions and the growth of the tech industry. The country is quickly expanding its internet footprint and now has the second highest number of internet users in the world. Internet Exchanges that facilitate public peering are a key asset for a region to enhance the quality of the internet. By expanding their footprint in India, Sify and AMS-IX deliver on the promise of bringing high quality and value-for-money connectivity to the region.

AMS-IX CEO Peter van Burgel says: “We are pleased to see that our expansion program is developing as planned. The first customers can now start connecting and exchange traffic at both locations via the AMS-IX Kolkata and Hyderabad platforms. A third new exchange is expected to go live later this year.”
