AMS-IX USA update: Chicago & Bay Area closing in March 2026

After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue our operations in the United States and close our Internet Exchange Points in Chicago and the Bay Area. Below you’ll find more information about the timeline, and what connected parties and other networks can do to keep peering in those regions.

  • Midnight, 4 March 2026: All peering sessions at AMS-IX Bay Area and AMS-IX Chicago will be disabled
  • 5 March 2026: AMS-IX U.S. operations discontinued

Connected Networks

Networks connected to AMS-IX Bay Area and/or AMS-IX Chicago have received detailed instructions by email. If they would like to continue peering at these locations, they can smoothly transition to our trusted partner Megaport.
