The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was established in 2005 during the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) and is the responsibility of the United Nations Secretary-General. This annual forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue brings together delegates from a.o. the public sector, civil society and the technical community. At the IGF, a non-decision making body, these different stakeholders try to influence each other in an open environment. As such, they contribute to the bridging of differences in order to get closer to a consensus on how to tackle certain challenges related to the long-term future of the Internet.
