New milestones indicate ongoing growth of Amsterdam-based platform
AMS-IX reflects back on another year of growth. The Internet Exchange saw the number of connected networks increase to more than 800 (compared to 750 in 2015). Furthermore, AMS-IX added 5.4 Tbps new capacity to its platform. This is an annual growth of 30% compared to 4.2 Tbps in 2015. This growth is also reflected in a new record in peak internet traffic of more than 5 Terabits per second (5 Terabit can be compared to 190h of good quality video* / *Source: whatsabyte.com ). These numbers indicate the continuous growth of AMS-IX, the leading Internet Exchange in the world.
The uptake of 100GE customers ports also continued in 2016 and increased by 50% to 110 ports. Job Witteman, CEO of AMS-IX: “The Internet is growing rapidly. Our objective is to facilitate this growth and the exchange of (Internet) traffic.”
As the leading Internet Exchange in the world, the Amsterdam-based platform welcomes many new customers from outside the Netherlands. Witteman: “In 2016 about 90% of our new customers came from outside of the Netherlands. This indicates the attractive power of our digital infrastructure throughout the world.”
